INDION HIGH PURITY WATER GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION
Water, the elixir of life - a term most apt to the pharmaceutical industry for which the quality of water is critical and receives high priority. Water is an essential & critical ingredient of pharmaceutical preparations and is used primarily for manufacture of oral preparations and in injectibles and intravenous fluids, besides washing of ampoules and bottles. Water treatment technology in the pharma industry has rapidly advanced in last couple of years. The current trend is
(a) Chemical free systems like reverse osmosis (RO) & electrodeionisation (EDI) to produce purifed water.
(b) Hot water sanitisible systems using hot water to stop proliferation of bacteria rather than using chemicals.
(c) Automated systems to avoid user intervention.
Ion Exchange India’s INDION High Purity Water Generation & Distribution Systems are ideal to meet this need.
The company has developed a state-of-art INDION RO EDI system which complies with cGMP, ISPE and GAMP guidelines to produce purified water of the highest standard. A fully functional FAT (factory acceptance test) under client supervision reduces final validation cost & time as well as commissioning time; ensures quality, stability and efficiency of performance, and ensures completeness and accuracy of documentation. The state-of-art INDION Swift demineralisation system, which is a fully automated system, till today is a benchmark in the industry to produce purified water, with more than 75 installations.
INDION RO – EDI Systems
• Hot water sanitisation
• Complete pure water generation package on one skid
• Fully pre-validated to industry accepted standards
• Compliance with latest USP and Ph Eur specifications
• Compliance with cGMP/cGAMP and ISPE design standards.
INDION Swift Demineralisers

• Instantaneous flow rates upto 20 m3/h
• Conductivity less than 1 µS-cm, with low running costs
• Automatic PLC control with continuous display readout of system status
• Short cycle (4 hours), rapid regeneration (30 min)
• High chemical efficiency, smaller footprint and higher flow rates than conventional plants
• Near neutral effluent reduces disposal costs
INDION Distribution Systems
• Hot water sanitisation at > 80° C
• Imported SS316 L tubes with original certificates with mill finish < 0.8 Ra, after EP < 0.3 Ra
• All pumps, UV steriliser & fittings in sanitary construction
• Orbitally welded with printout facility
• Built around ISPE and cGMP guidelines
• Fully automatic with SCADA 21CFR part 11 compliant
On the disinfection issue, a new trend is to use bioactive reactors to reduce the high BOD/COD levels of pharma effluents. The company’s range of environmental solutions for the pharma industry include packaged sewage treatment plants ,membrane bio-reactors, effluent treatment & recycle systems for zero discharge, and technologies that tackle air pollution to insure that volatile organic compounds(VOCs) meet emission standards.
INDION SPECIALITY PRODUCTS FOR PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULATIONS
Ion Exchange (India) Ltd. offers a range of speciality excipient resins which are widely used for several applications in the pharmaceutical industry.
Tablet Disintegrants: INDION speciality resins expand up to 900% on contact with moisture, causing effective disintegration of tablets.
Sustained & Controlled Release: INDION resins are formulated to required particle size, degree of cross linking and functionalities for specific drug release. They provide uniform, prolonged and predictable drug release characteristics. These resins are used in formulations based on Isoxsuprine Hydrochloride, Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride, Ephedrine Hydrochloride, Diltiazem Hydrochloride and many other drugs.
Vitamin B12 Stabilisation: Vitamin B12 is an example of a pharmaceutical that can deteriorate on storage resulting in expensive overages. The stability of Vitamin B12 can be prolonged by complexing it with INDION speciality resin. The complex is as effective as the free form of the vitamin.
Taste Masking: The problem of bitter and obnoxious taste in paediatric and geriatric formulations is solved by using INDION speciliaty resins in dispersible tablets and suspensions, particularly in formulations based on Chloroquine Phosphate, Roxithromycin, Dixtromethorphan, Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin, Pseudoephedrine, Bromhexine, Dicylomine Hydrochloride, Ofloxacin, Azithromycin and several other drugs
Cholesterol Reducers: Cholestyramine resin USP, when used as an active ingredient, binds bile acids leading to replenishment of the bile acids through increased metabolism of serum cholesterol. This helps reduce serum cholesterol levels.
Other applications include use in bulk drugs for isolation of various products from dilute streams (isolation and concentration of antibiotics, amino acids, enzymes), decolourising and deashing of process streams and purification to remove undesirable metal ions.
PROCESSING OF PHARMACEUTICALS & BULK DRUGS
As the behavioural pattern of chemical compounds can be high individualistic, the pharmaceutical industry requires products that are engineered to meet the requirements of a particular applications. Ion Exchange India offers the pharmaceutical industry customised solutions consisting of:
